Unwrap the Magic of the Season: Fun Holiday Activities for…
The holiday season is upon us, and with it comes the opportunity to create lasting memories with your little ones.
This game is a fun winter twist on the classic Hot Potato. Make a shiny, warm snowball with a sparkly white pom-pom or Styrofoam ball. Start the music and have your little ones pass around the snowball until the music stops – whoever’s holding the snowball then takes a break. The last one standing is the winner!
Create a pile of winter clothes, like jackets, hats, gloves, scarves and boots. Have each child race against the clock to put on as many items as possible. For older kids, create two teams and see who can dress up a teammate the fastest. When you are done playing, you might want to clean out the clothes that are too small or old and donate to a charity after the game (just a thought).
Adapt the traditional egg spoon race into a safari-themed game, perfect for the South African context. Each child balances a small toy animal on their head and tries to make it to the finish line without dropping their “precious cargo”. You can also use bean bags and place these on their feet so they have to hop like penguins to the finish line, as an alternative.
Create a plastic wrap ball containing small toys, stickers, or candy. The children pass the ball around, unwinding layers to discover treasures. For older children, add a dice-rolling element to add an extra layer of excitement.
Fill a jar with colourful LEGO bricks, small toys, or sweets and have guests guess the number inside. This game not only engages children but also serves as a wonderful party favour.
Channel their inner architect with a tower building competition using recyclable materials, blocks or cups.
The objective?
Building the tallest tower within a given time. This game can be played individually or in teams.
Give musical chairs a unique twist. Instead of chairs, place animal stickers on the floor for the children to stand on. When the music stops, the child without a sticker is out. This game keeps the energy high and the fun going! Make this game even more interactive by adding the DIY element by first having little guests decorate pre-cut paper animals at a craft table to use in the game as the “stickers”.
Tie a white balloon to each child’s ankle, representing a snowball. At your signal, the kids try to pop each other’s balloons by stomping on them. It’s fast, hilarious, and always a hit with the little ones.
Draw cute penguin faces on white cups. Divide the kids into two teams, with one aiming to turn all cups upright and the other trying to flip them upside down. This game is a wonderful way to build team spirit and coordination.
Ahoy, young pirates! Get ready for a swashbuckling adventure with your very own kiddie-sized pirate ship. Here’s what you’ll need:
